kahani

*दिहाड़ी मजदूर की
खून, पसीने का

बिगड़ा ही सही बेटा,
टुकड़ा सीने का

बच्चों की ज़िद
अंत महीने का

रात की डिब्बी
चाँद मीने** का

गम हो साकी^
मज़ा पीने का

घाव इश्क का
छेद सफीने^^ का

कीचड़ में कमल
फ़लसफ़ा*^ जीने का

खुदा काशी का
राम मदीने^* का

*दिहाड़ी - daily wages; **मीनाकारी - art of embellishment on solid surfaces; ^साकी - the cup bearer (bartender); ^^सफीने - boat; *^फ़लसफ़ा - philosophy; ^*मदीना - the Islamic holy city of Madina (with Kashi of Hinduism)

as of now, no English translation. working on it. begging, pleading, cajoling the benevolent powers involved :)

it's beautiful..makes me wish instead o' bugging my hindi teacher in school i'd had learnt a bit of it..jokes apart.
it's a beautiful...simple but yet so touching...bringing 2 view the day to day hardships and emotions of life.

the best part of your poetry is that you subtly put into words what your hearts feels :-)

and let me suggest don try a translation...
its ethereal...
u r my inspiration when i have to write the hindi verse and this is the reason why so... u capture the essential human experience with so straight and subtle words, so softly that one feels that life can be so exuberantly complicated and yet so simply captured.

Sir ji Salute..
Its wonderful, with some amazing amazing hindi vocab....the ease with which u let ur words do the talking its astounding..
I guess a eng translation probably will not justify the overall feeling which its is able to generate...

Amazing stuff....

Hi man,

Beautiful writing. I am no authority to judge poetry or prose but my definition of beauty in writing is that which stirs something in me.

Reading your lines, each couplet told a story to me. I couldn't resist the temptation and hence, took the liberty of writing this inspired by your lines :

dehaadi mazdoor ki
woh odhne ki chaadar
jhankte jisse
do nange pair
poochte ek masoom sawaal
kya yehi hai
nateeja
khoon paseene ka?

bigda hi sahi beta
khoon hai apna
maa ki mamta
maa hi jaane
jise rakha nau
mahine kok mein
karun alag kaise
tukda seene ka?

bachhon ki zidd
ka darr hai mujhko
woh maali hi kya
jo phool na seenche
roz hun ginta
baaki ke din
kab aayega
ant maheene ka?

raat ki dibbi
pe chandi ke taare
pet kaat kar
sajaaye hain
badr ki tasveer
nahi hai mumkin
kaise banaun
chaand meene ka?

gam ho saaki
to piyun khushi se
pyaala bhar bhar
ashru ka
dard na ho
seene mein jab tak
kahaan hai
mazaa peene ka?

keechad mein kamal
nahi chahta rehna
jaakar keh do
kaviyon se
mukh ho sundar
ragon mein kalak
ye kaisa
falsafaa jeene ka?

khudaa kaashi ka
ilm na kehte
kehte khudaa
ke bande
kaagaz kalam
na jaanein mazhab
kyun na ho
raam madeene ka?

Please don't mind and thanks again for such lovely lines.

Every couplet signifies a struggle, a contradiction; the last one being the climax; a chimera!?
